Advent Calendar 2005
The Silk Road

The theme of the 2005 Advent Calendar was 'Journey of the Heart'.

A group of courageous travellers packed at a moments notice and headed off for a three month trek along the Soul Food Silk Road.

They discovered a road that twisted and wound endlessly. They met the Amazon Queen, a Hermit, a Mystic, Gypsy Travellers, Fortune Tellers, a Bath-house Madame, the Sacred Warrior Knight, the Mistress of the Wardrobe and many other interesting characters.

The 2005 Advent Calendar preserves the journey of these travellers and provides everyone else with the opportunity to pull out their visual journals and participate in many of the activities that travellers undertook.

Each day a bright light appeared on the calendar, opening a new link.By December 25 the heavens above the Silk Road were aglow.

This year the calendar provided visitors with the opportunity to join bloggers in order to complete activities and interact with the Silk Road travellers.

Enjoy!

Muse Toolbox

The Muse gave Hesiod the staff of inpsiration and enabled him to sing a song. Visting these cyber sites and meeting true votaries of the muse, is equal to being given the staff of inspiration or a Muse Toolbox.

Endicot Studios

Cynthia Korzekwa exploration of the Aesthetics of Appreciation is applauded by the muse. "If you're lucky and don't know it, it's like not being lucky at all" writes Korzekwa. She suggests that to keep your luck alive you need to recognize it by making Retablos Retablos are a means of offering thanks for this luck. Personally I think Korsekwa is on to something big.

As an aside, my primary concern about linking you to Korzekwa is that I may never see you again, simply because there is so much to explore and be inspired by. Make sure to take Ariadne's thread so you get back here again. Upon return try recognizing your luck as an artist or writer by writing a Hymn to the Muse and posting it in the Muse Hymn Box.

Pacifica, the site of the Joseph Campbell and Marija Gimbutus Libraries is a must visit for mythologists.

Salon will always replenish your creative well. It is worth subscribing to but you can get day passes.

SARK Susan Ariel Rainbow Kennedy, says that she 'visits the Soul Food Cafe to revel in language, soak in creative experiments, and marvel at the depth that is there.'

Such praise from the creator of Planet Sark is like music to the ears. Personally I love Sark's Studio but I confess I like to call in and ask Jupiter (Sark's cat) for some advice about how to spend my day.

Advent Calendar for Artists - 2004

Soul Food is proud to launch what has become an annual feature. The December 2004 Advent Calendar is full of projects that have been test run during 2004 in Melbourne schools, and features the work of artists from around the world.

Make sure to let all you friends know that they must visit Soul Food on a daily basis during December in order to experience the joy of opening up a new link on the Calendar.

Whimsical Activity Calendar 2003

A wonderful Advent gift came from Heather at Soul Food Cafe, who prepared a virtual Advent Calendar , with one 'door' to be opened every day through to Dec 26. Like everything at Soul Food, this is a labor of love packed with good writing, thoughts and ideas both for making this a rewarding and fruitful time, and especially for navigating the sometimes stormy and difficult waters of the holiday season.
