Advent Calendar 2005
The theme of the 2005 Advent Calendar was 'Journey of the Heart'.
A group of courageous travellers packed at a moments notice and headed off for a three month trek along the Soul Food Silk Road.
They discovered a road that twisted and wound endlessly. They met the Amazon Queen, a Hermit, a Mystic, Gypsy Travellers, Fortune Tellers, a Bath-house Madame, the Sacred Warrior Knight, the Mistress of the Wardrobe and many other interesting characters.
The 2005 Advent Calendar preserves the journey of these travellers and provides everyone else with the opportunity to pull out their visual journals and participate in many of the activities that travellers undertook.
Each day a bright light appeared on the calendar, opening a new link.By December 25 the heavens above the Silk Road were aglow.
This year the calendar provided visitors with the opportunity to join bloggers in order to complete activities and interact with the Silk Road travellers.

Ohio Homestead's Recipes & Recollections of a Season
Embark on a journey through the four seasons of a market farmer/homesteader’s life. Join her as she taps trees for maple syrup and discovers the first snowdrops peeking through the snow in early spring. Walk alongside as she pursues the wild berry brambles of June and gleans the rustling cornfields in late autumn. Finally, snuggle in by the wood stove while the stew simmers during the cold of winter. In the pages of Ohio Homestead’s Recipes & Recollections of a Season, Trendle Ellwood brings us a taste of the challenges and a sampling of the joys of a life lived close to the heart of nature. She shares with us the hope that as in the seasons of the garden, likewise within the human heart, winter is destined to melt into spring.

Through the Enchanted Doorway
My journey began long before I knew I was looking for something. One night I received an email asking me if I was ready to embark on a journey. I had no idea where it would go. It started with a list. Tired of carrying the weight of my life, I packed lightly with only what would fit in my little backpack.
At daybreak, I meet many travelers who were ready for such a journey as this. I found a hidden door in a tree and was whisked away by a night ride in moonlight. Mysterious gypsies drew me with a silent call in the night.
Some kind of enchantment made my dreams deep and meaningful. Before long, I woke each day excited to know what would happen next. The journey to an island brought memories I didn’t know I possessed. Ancient knowledge was revealed to me.
How can my life ever be the same now? I learned to proclaim who I am. I am no longer the invisible child! See me! Hear me! Understand my words! Slowly I have come to realize my own truth. That truth is to be free. Unburdened by my own past and my parents past. Just let it go and find what’s around that next corner.
I have met celestial beings. I have meet wee fairies. I have meet warriors of great strength and feminine mystic. I have meet talking donkeys and talking dolls. I have met known hell raisers. I have been reintroduced to friends of old who knew me long ago.
And now I have learned to be open in a completely new way. My heart feels lighter than I ever remember it being. I have let go of old cryptic ideas. I have found a new road. The Silk Road. It winds through space and time; thoughts and dreams; mystery and magic.
Somewhere along the way I met myself. The child, the girl, and the woman I want to be. I was stunned to discover that I needed to make some changes. To hold my own hand and say, “Yes! We can do this.” Brick by brick I had to tear down my own walls and find an inner world rich with ideas waiting to be discovered.
At last, I am in an distant land with no water and no road. I have finally come to the last door. The one that was hidden away for safekeeping, so no one would find that brilliant light. The key is the secret that I hid in my own heart. It was a prisoner there that I bound tight. And through my journey the ties loosened. And fell away, until I could feel an ache of joy and freedom coming close.
The key that spilled from my lips opened the door and released my spirit. Away I flew with magic wings. I saw a wild fire burning. The fire of my anger, my regret, my invisibility burning, burning, gone! - Luna Eternally.
A Wander's Song
I found a hidden door --
See me! Hear me! -- I proclaim who I am.
I have met celestial beings --
See me! Hear me! -- I proclaim who I am.
The Silk Road winds through time and space
See me! Hear me! -- I proclaim who I am.

Karen Roberts - HandMaid
My name is Karen Roberts and this is my shop. I started with a few old maps, and, well—you can see all the treasures I have collected. Here you will find all manner of items, and some are indeed handmade. But as you notice, that’s not the exact name of the place. Throughout my life, I have been somewhat of an eclectic, picking up and putting down many arts, crafts, identities, and philosophies. As I have grown older, I have come to the realization that I am merely a handmaid for the creative energy of the universe, a midwife of sorts, if you will.
faucon of Sakin'el
No Gusari has pranced the earth since the 15th century, but faucon of Sakine'el can recreate the Mystique through stories and practice. Please post thoughts, stories and poems labeled either "Glade" or "Village" according to focus. Check "Strum of the Gusli" for a full explanation. If you wish a 'Sounding' or question answered by Kiyan, direct it to firstname.lastname@example.org. See "Strum of the Gusli" to understand the themes.
Anita Marie Moscosso - Soul Food Curiosity Shop
Anita Marie Moscoso, of Weird Tales from Deadwood Hall, and Going to Croatan fame, has opened a Curiosity Shop within the walls of Soul Food. Anita Marie's passion for the curious and ghostly is adding fresh colour to Soul Food.
So what shall it be tonight? A ghost story? Maybe a twisted tale of revenge or longing or greed? What? My story? Why not? It's a good one, if I don't say so myself. Take a seat and listen to her newest story about The Amazing Benandanti.
Apart from the Curiosity Shop Anita Marie is also presiding over the Chamber of Horrors which is set in an old medical building not far from the Lemurian Abbey Catacombs. The Chamber is filling with stories, resources and writing suggestion.
Shari Vogt - North Star Studio Duwamish Bay
North Star Studios is an art gallery and workshop on Duwamish Bay. Here you will see art that will not only dazzle your senses but delight your soul. Each artwork has it's own spell that will affect the buyer in a positive way. There's no way to know what spell each artwork has unless you take the piece home.
Gail Kavanagh - Vale of Avondale
Gail Kavanagh was wondering if she still had the energy and the vision to follow her dream and devote the rest of her life to pure creativity, when she decided to call in at the Soul Food Café and say hello to Heather. She was immediately invited to join other travellers on an incredible journey. Gail knows about travelling. Born in Ireland too many years ago (but who’s counting?) her people were travellers and showmen. It seemed crazy to trust her instincts and take to the road again but it was the best thing that could have happened. Now the dream has shape, and form, and hope. Visit her at the Vale of Avondale
Imogen Crest - Hermit
It was with great fortune I arrived at the gates of the Lemurian Abbey, what seems like many moons ago. Actually, I felt like I was coming home. Welcomed so warmly by the Abbess and the residents, I slipped gratefully into the creative regions of this wonderland. My love of nature must have come from my great grandfather, who was conscious of man’s need for green and to have creatures around him, also led me to study the healing properties of plants. Nature is a wonderland of endless surprises and spiritual growth, which drew me magnetically to the nature mystics, ancient and not so ancient. Emerson, Thoreau and Suzuki are great impressions. It was inevitable I would develop into the Hermit, Imogen Crest, who now runs the Hermitage and makes sure the green “sometimes” solitude is always there to nurture and provide respite for the weary traveller on the Soul Food Silk Road. Feel safe travellers, as you are guided by trusty hands in every region.
Fran Sbrocchi - Secretary of Donkey's Incorporated
No-one is quite sure how Fran Sbrocchi is doing it but she has formed a most effective union for the donkey's who have faithfully transported travellers to the House of the Serpents and other destinations on the Silk Road. Anyone planning to travel by donkey must make sure they have their papers up to date before heading out. Check Donkeys Incorporated for more details about the travels of these animals. To view a collection of Fran's portraits visit the Donkey Hall of Fame.
Eternally Luna - Tree Tea and Quills.
Tree Tree and Quills is a gentle place where you may choose from a menu of wonderful items to refresh the spirit. We have a unique shop located in the trees in a quaint little treehouse overlooking the Creek.
Megan Warren - The Forgotten Lost Souls
Megan Warren is Charlie, keeper of The Book of The Forgotten, charged with telling the stories of lost souls. She tends the graveyards of Lemuria, keeping them free of weeds and laying flowers at the headstones. Megan believes that the dead deserve a peaceful resting place. Some might say that she preoccupied with death - maybe she is - but she has seen so much of it and write from Experience and the heart.
